Ksena received an American Girl doll for Christmas.  It was from their "Girls from many Lands" collection.  It also came with a book entitled, "Cecile - Gates of Gold."  The doll is suppose to be a collectors item and most people would not even take it out of the box.  But I told Ksena, you can take it out and play with it but to take very good care of it.

The book was recommended for 11 years and up but Ksena had incredible interest in the story at age 5 and we read the entire book in a week or so.  It even had Dad's interest.  It is a great story based on 1700s France.

I am very excited to have just received our new science curriculum, God's Design for Science.  This should last for a while as it is intended for grades 1-8.  I can eventually use it for all three girls at the same time.  And the best thing about this package, is that it is totally biblically accurate.  It teaches Creation, and not just "creation" but a young earth created a little over 6,000 years ago and created in 6 actual 24 hour days.  It disucess the theory of evolution but shows why the theory is obviously wrong.  If you are interested in learning more, check out the link.  It has very high reviews by homeschoolers, science teachers, and the like.

It has been quite a while since I have updated my blog here so thought I would talk about something current.  My two older girls have long ago left behind most of the books that I still have listed on my Childrens Books page but my youngest is starting to have interest in those.  But lately, Kasi and Ksena just love these Laura Ingalls Wilder chapter books, even with very few pictures.  The stories are great and speak of early American History as the settlers moved West and had to contend with the Indians, etc.  We have read, "Little House in the Big Woods", "Farmer Boy", and "Little House on the Prairie".  We are now reading "On the Banks of Plum Creek".  They had to leave their little house on the Prairie because they were in Indian Territory and the Army was going to make them leave anyway.  Reading these books is very interesting, even for me.  "The only good Indian is a dead Indian", Mr. Scott says but Pa disagrees! :-) - Bill

My wife picked this book up at the library and it is wonderful.  These two wooden puppets wonder where they came from.  They get in to a bit of an argument over this because Yellow belives they were an accident but Pink believes there is no possible way they could be an accident.  At the end of the book, a man arrives on the scene and picks both of them up, saying to himself, "they are dry now".  Pink and Yellow wonder who this man is.  ha-ha

Yes, I believe this is a very powerful book for teaching the differences to young children regarding Creation and Evolution.   It is also a very fun book to read.  The girls have requested it often since we picked it up. - Bill
