Mike Mulligan And His Steam Shovel - Virginia Lee Burton
This book was first published way back in 1939, way before my time. When I first started reading it, I didn't think our girls would make this one a favorite but boy was I ever wrong. This is one of Ksena's absolute favorite books. The book is about Mike Mulligan and his trusty steam shovel, Mary Anne. They dig canals for boats to travel through, cut mountain passes for trains and hollow out cellars for city skyscrapers. But later electric and diesel powered steam shovels take over and get all the jobs. This means that Mike and Mary Anne are out of work so they decide to travel to the small town of Popperville to dig the town cellar in just one day. The entire town watches as they perform this last job in record speed. This book is a magnet for kids and if you have boys, I would guess even more so than with our girls. Skunks! Go To Bed! - Ted Bailey
We bought this book at Half Priced Books and what a deal it was. This is a very funny book about some skunks that refuse to hibernate like the rest of the animals are trying to do. Finally, the other animals decide to throw a party for the skunks and get them tired so that they will fall asleep. The skunks are very lively at the party at first but the other animals refuse to let them play fast music. They have them play slow music instead and drink warm milk. This causes the skunks to become very sleepy and eventually the plan works. Then all the other animals can finally start their hibernation for the winter. It is a fun story. There's a Wocket in my Pocket! - Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss's Book of Ridiculous Rhymes (There's a Wocket in my Pocket) is another very fun Dr. Seuss board book. It's about a boy who imagines things lurking in the dark and behind the objects in his house. You have the Zamp in the Lamp, a Nooth grush on his toothbrush, a Jertain in the curtain and all sorts of strange things in this book. The best part is at the end with the Zillow on a pillow, because that means it is time to go to sleep. Find the best price for There's a wocket in my pocket.
Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can you? - Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss's Book of Wonderful Noises is especially appreciated by the very young children. I read this book to my girls when they were one years of age. They laughed as I sounded out he words in the book. I always stressed the "can you" in the sentence, "Mr. Brown can moo, can you?". They really enjoyed that.
